Balkello Fabrics is an online fabric store based in Seattle, USA, and shipping worldwide. We delight in sourcing (and, slowly, designing!) vibrant, bold, playful fabrics for home sewists. Most of these fabrics are yarn-dyed wovens, like our signature rainbow checks. We also stock a variety of secondhand and deadstock fabrics that catch our eye. If it's colorful, textured, unique, or unusual, Balkello is interested. We're also proud to donate 5% of our profits to a rotating selection of charities each quarter.

Meet the Team

Candace (she/her) is the vibrant, candid, enthusiastic founder of Balkello Fabrics who's applying her 9 years of sewing experience to sourcing and designing the colorful fabrics she could never find in other shops. Candace started the business in 2021 as an online shop with occasional fabric drops. Working from her living room, she was fueled by coffee, blind optimism, and the gorgeous fabric designs that popped into her mind whenever she closed her eyes. In late 2023, she decided to start working on the biz more consistently, and since then we've tripled the size of our community, brought you dozens of new fabrics, and started some long-dreamed-of projects like the No Fat Tax discount. Candace's enthusiastic encouragement and expert fabric knowledge make shopping with her feel like a pep talk from an old friend. When she’s not working on the biz, you’ll find her watching YouTube deep dives, nannying her friends' sweet toddler, brushing up on her incredible crossword skills, or working on a DIY project she probably started that morning. Carly (she/her) is our fabulous first employee! Carly hopped on board in July 2024 with a head full of ideas and excellent audiobook recommendations. With her knack for fun writing, endless marketing ideas, serious graphic design skills, and "yes and" attitude, Carly has quickly become an essential team member at Balkello. What started as a fulfillment coordinator role has grown into a real second-in-command powerhouse role! When she's not working on the biz, you'll find her walking her dog through leafy parks, swimming in Green Lake, playing D&D with friends, or swapping mystery books with anyone who will listen.
